RETENTION OF PLACENTA
If placenta
does not comes out within 6-8 hours then it called retention of placenta
Etiology-
- In case of abortion
- In case of dystocia
- Calcium deficiency
- Lake of uterine contractions
- Any other mineral deficiency
Symptoms-
- Placenta can be seen hanging out of vulva.
- Reduced milk production
- Anorexia
- Fever
- Straining
Diagnosis-
- On the basis of signs and symptoms
Treatment-
- First of all uterine ecbolics (cleaners) are given to the animal
- If placenta does not comes out in 24 hrs. Placenta will removed manually (by hand)
- Placenta should be removed after 24 hrs of parturition to lessen the chances of pyometra and uterine inflammation.
- Don’t pull the placenta forcefully.
- Broad spectrum antibiotics are given to the animal for at least 3 days after manual removal of placenta.
- Use intrauterine antibacterial medicines after removal of placenta.
- Good quality uterine cleaners should be given to the animal for 8-10 days.
- Calcium magnesium Borogluconate should be given (I/V).
- A good quality of mineral mixture should also be given to the animal to better production.
