 PYOMETRA

Accumulation of pus in uterus is known as pyometra.

Etiology-

  • By any bacterial infection (e.g. staphylococci)
  •  Retention of placenta may cause pyometra.
  • After dystocia pyometra may occur
  • Uterine prolapse can be the reason of pyometra

Symptoms-

  • Reduced milk yield
  • Anorexia
  • Fever
  • Inflamed uterus
  •  White discharge (Pus) from vulva
  • Persistency of corpus Luteum

Diagnose-

  • By signs and symptoms
  • By rectal palpation

Treatment-

  • Prostaglandin should be given to remove the corpus Luteum and to open the OS of cervix
  • Remove the pus present in uterus manually
  • Intrauterine medication should be given to the animal at least for 3-4 days
  • Analgesic and antibiotics along with B-complex injections should also be given the animal.
  • Regular mineral mixture should be given to the animals for healthy farming.
