 OSTEOMALACIA

Disease caused by deficiency of calcium and vitamin D in older animals.

Etiology -

  • Deficiency of calcium, phosphorus and vitamin D
  • Improper ratio of calcium and phosphorus in body
Symptoms -
  • Bending of legs
  • lameness
  • Arthritis (inflammation of joints)
  • Difficulty in breathing
  • weakness of bones
  • Eating of uneatable things
Diagnosis -
  • By signs and symptoms
  • X-Ray
  • blood test 
Treatment - 
  • Provide enough sunlight to the animal
  • Give calcium, phosphorus and vitamin D orally or parentally
  • Give B-complex and multivitamins orally or parentally
  • Give good quality of mineral mixture to the animal
injections can be used -

Calcium -  Calcium and D3 injections (Inj. Tinacal / Inj. Simlage )
Phosphorus - Sodium acid phosphate or Butaphosphon (Inj. Urimin/ Inj. Metphos/ Inj. Metaways/ Inj. Catosal etc.)
