BLACK QUARTER
It is
contagious disease of adult animals mainly below the age of 2 years that occurs
mostly after the rainy season.
Etiology:
Clostridium
chouvoel is the causative agent of this disease. It is rod shaped, anaerobic
gram positive bacteria. Incubation period of this disease is 1-5 days.
Spreading:
Spoiled feed
and water intake and open wound
Symptoms:
- High fever
- Tachycardia
- blood become black in affected area
- Muscular regions are most affected areas of the body
- Inflammation occurs due to accumulation of gases on affected area
- The inflamed area remains warm and painful
- Creaking sound can be heard from the affected area, when pressed
- Difficulty in walking is seen.
Diagnosis:
By signs and
symptoms
Treatment:
- Use broad spectrum (3rd generation of above) antibiotic or antibiotic that affects the gram positive bacteria i.e. Oxytetracycline/Cefoperazone/Ceftriaxone Use at least for 3-5 days.
- Blood should be drained out from the affected area by incision.
- B-complex should be given parentally along with antibiotics.
- Analgesics should be given to relieve the pain and to get rid of fever.
