BABESIOSIS

Haemoprotozoan disease of ruminants and horses. Mostly found in moist areas.

Etiology:

Protozoa named Babesia Bigemina is causative agent. Spreads by vectors. Incubation period is 5-15days

Symptoms:

Acute-

  • High fever upto 107F
  • High respiration
  • Pale mucus membrane
  • Red colored urine
  • Anorexia
  • Death may occur

Chronic-

  • Frequent fever
  • Weakness
  • Pale mucus membrane

Diagnosis:

By laboratory Test

Treatment:

  • Anti Haemoprotozoan drug Diminazine Aceturate is drug of choice
  • Give analgesics along with b-complex and anti histamines
  • Liver should be given , bcoz protozoan negatively affects the 
  • Give iron tonics and vitamin A injections
  • Provide good quality of mineral mixture
